First we have to understand the opposition, namely - Nihilism.
Nihilism is a philosophical belief that life and existence have no inherent meaning, purpose, or objective value.
But what if we consider that life is the meaning in itself? The continuation of life, upholding of life, reproduction in case of living creatures. Modern man can be smart enough to decline its temptations but the urge is still there in our biology. The meaning is just this endless cycle, nothing more, that churns until something forces it to stop.
It's the same thing with any animal, eat, breed and repeat, there's no end-goal but the reason is the survival of the specie. So the meaning isn't a result, it's the act of guaranteeing our survival. Nothing really challenges this effort but high population has a tendency to crash at some point, at least in the animal world.
We are parts of a biological machine and that's our purpose - to keep it running.
It's not a pretty picture or particularly useful one in asserting any meaning into our being, but it's still a meaning. Every living thing in the universe is doing just the same, trying to stay alive and reproduce. If evolution has some hidden tricks in its sleeves, we do not know. We would like to hear that all this (life) is aimed towards something, towards redemption, ascension, deliverance, what the religions promise us. Or if God doesn't save us perhaps we reincarnate and start anew, since there's got to be some sort of back-up plan, right?
